Auburn March 11th To [??] Throop, My dear Sir Your most kind note asking me to set a day for our dining with you was received yesterday late in the afternoon and I hasten this morning to reply as far as I can. You [??] a great desire that our dear friend Mrs. [??] accompany us and is [??] warmest wishes, but she has been very ill, and may be now. We have not heard from her since Monday. I have been very feeble for the past fortnight and have not been able to go out, but my Sister has been to see her nearly every day. Today I [??] going. She would not be able to go out next week, might possibly the week after. I thought I would state her situation to you and leave you to decide what would be your wishes. And now my dear friend please excuse my "presumption" in what I am going to say. We feel deeply your proffered hospitality, but all things considered allow me to suggest that we lunch with you instead of dining, it would be very delightful to us, and as the roads are in a very bad state, we should be able to return home by daylight. [??] of us feel we are old and if my suggestion meets your appreciation, we shall be very much gratified-- If your arrangements are such that next week will accommodate you best. Please set the day yourself-- my Sister and Mr. Porter desire their kindest remembrance to you. And believe me dear Sir, most truly your friend, Ann[?] Porter
