This note refers to "Charles Bradley Stoughton" (1841–1898) who was an officer and regimental commander in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, Stoughton studied law with his father and became an attorney in the New York City practice of his uncle, Edwin W. Stoughton. He was a member of several Democratic national conventions, and vice-president of the convention that nominated Breckinridge for President. He served as state senator in 1862-63. He was brother of Edwin Henry Stoughton [SSID 22314626].
