Culture Front- Publishing, Drama, Yiddish, Education - Description:
- Translated Summary: Receipt from the CKŻP for money raised by the JPFO for Poland, in English. Caption in Yiddish explains this is a facsimile of the official receipt, and that the equivalent in American dollars is $223,400. Money was given to Łódź (including for Jewish Theater), communities in Upper and Lower Silesia, Zamość, Warsaw, and Szczecin (Stettin), and for printing and publishing projects as well as general support of the CKŻP. [Paweł Zelicki was the CKŻP's secretary general. This reprint of a Polish Jewish document is presumably intended for an American public audience since the names and signatures are in English, perhaps for a fundraising brochure rendered in English. The original from which this was reprinted does not have the Yiddish note at the bottom.
- Notes:
- Seems to account for some of the receipts received from Łódź
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
