Description:
August 7 1946, English letter from Warsaw acknowledging expenditures for Jewish cultural and post war institutions in Lodz, Zamość, Warsaw, Lodz, Szczecin (Stettin), Upper Silesia, and Lower Silesia of funds received from the JPFO. Was reprinted and, with a Yiddish caption added, used for publicity and fundraising. Penciled note at the bottom 7 3/4 may indicate size of intended reproduction.

The material from Poland shows post-war conditions and JPFO fund raising and relief efforts.
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
