- This is a fragment of a cast of a statue of the muse of dance, Terpsichore, one of a group of statues of muses from the Villa of Cassius in Tivoli now housed in the Vatican Museum. Preserved here are a large fragment from the top of the muse's wreathed head, including her forehead and part of her right eye, along with additional fragments of her wreath. Her wavy hair is pulled back. The wreath is of laurel, three leaves wide and interspersed with berries at regular intervals. See ID no. 135 for the cast's body. The head and body are ancient but do not belong together. The work was modified in the 18th c. by restorers. As stated in the Sage catalog, the mold for this cast was made specifically for Cornell University.
