- Description:
- This is the bottom half of a cast of a small, diorite, seated statue of the Egyptian goddess Unut (or Wenet or Wenut). The original is housed at the Louvre. Preserved here are the lower torso, legs, and throne of the figure. The goddess sits on a basic throne with her feet flat on the ground. She wears a clingy garment that ends just above her ankles. Her right (proper) hand lies flat at her knee and she holds an ankh in her left hand at her knee. Her features are slender. The upper half of her body is broken away and missing here. In the dark gray stone original, she is depicted with full breasts and with a lion's head topped by a solar disc and a uraeus. The figure is identified as Basht in the Sage Catalogue, an identification that is no longer current. Wenet is lion-headed here but is most often represented as a hare or snake. An oval seal on the base identifies the Musées Nationaux Moulages as the maker of this cast.
