- Description:
- This is a fragment from a larger cast of a section of East IV. Included here are the god's left leg, bared from the lower quadricep down, his raised right knee which he clasps with his hands, his dangling right foot (perhaps resting on a now-missing painted rock in the original), parts of his and Demeter's stools, and a small section of Demeter's forearm and torch. This piece joins with ID nos. 411 (Ares), 412 and 477 (Demeter). East IV was cast in three separate pieces by Caproni, a possible source of this and other Parthenon frieze casts owned by Cornell. If this object comes from such a configuration, it is a fragment from the third (from the left) of these three segments.
