- Description:
- A man (procession marshal) in himation stands in three-quarter pose facing towards the viewer's right, and towards the oncoming procession. The right side of his torso and right arm are bared, and his garment drapes across his left shoulder and abdomen. The hindquarters of two horses overlap each other and the marshal from the waist down. These horses pull towards the left of the frame a chariot, one quarter of the four-spoked wheel of which is preserved in this cast fragment. The tail of one horse extends back to follow the line of the chariot wheel. An element of the frame of the chariot extends upright above the wheel, and the right arm, left hand, and drapery folds of the charioteer are visible. Also visible is the hand of the apobates (hoplite-athlete) who rides alongside the charioteer. This object is a fragment from a larger cast block of a damaged original, which preserves a fuller view of the chariot and horses.
