- Description:
- This is a damaged and incomplete cast of the marble Athena Giustiniani, a work that has been identified as an Antonine era copy of a (hypothetical) Greek bronze original of the fourth century BCE. The goddess stands with her right leg slightly back and places her weight on her left leg. She wears a peplos, a himation slung over her left shoulder, and an aegis with gorgon's head and snaky fringe. Missing from this cast are the head and neck (although see ID no. 315a), the lower portions of both arms, the hands, part of the right foot, the upright spear at Athena's right side, the coiled snake at the statue's base, and some sections of the plinth.
