- Description:
- This is a cast in two large, adjoining fragments (ID nos. 230 and 231) of South X showing three horsemen looking straight ahead and riding towards the viewer's right. This fragment preserves the top of the block. Fig. 26, foregrounded, wears an anatomical cuirass, short chiton, and chlamys. He holds his horse's reins in bent arms. His horse, whose front legs are lifted in a gallop, obscures much of the body of the horseman riding ahead (fig. 27). Fig. 27's head is visible from behind that horse, as is his left hand, in which he holds his own horse's reins. The draped upper part of his right leg is also contained in this fragment. Fig. 28 is further backgrounded and his body is also partially concealed behind fig. 27's horse. He bends his right arm up to hold the reins of his horse, and the draped upper portion of his right leg can be here, as well.
