- Description:
- This is a largely complete cast of a segment of East IV, which was made in three separate portions by Caproni, a possible source of this and other Parthenon frieze casts owned by Cornell. In this block, three male figures, conjectured to be eponymous heroes of Athens, dignitaries, or magistrates, lean on staffs. They all have bare chests, all are draped in himatia from the waist down, and all are posed in three-quarter view. Fig. 20 faces to the right (viewer's) and holds his drapery up with his bent left arm. Fig. 21 faces him, leans back slightly on his staff, and holds his garment up under his left arm. Fig. 22 faces right and places his weight on his right leg and staff, crossing his left in front of him. His himation is wrapped around his left arm, and he holds his staff with both hands. All three figures have heavily damaged faces, as in the original. A fourth member of this group is not shown here, but is included in the contiguous cast block.
