Selene (Greek deity) - Image View Type:
- overall
- Image View Description:
- from side
- Measurement:
- 68 x 47 x 38 (centimeters, height x width x diameter)
- Description:
- This is an intact but damaged cast of fig. N from the east pediment of the Parthenon, identified as the moon goddess, Selene. In the original the deity, rendered from the abdomen up, rises from the floor of the pediment holding the reins of the four horses of her chariot. In the current condition of the original, she is missing her head and arms. The figure wears a peplos with a narrow cord around the waist and a cross cord across her chest. In this cast a large section of the surface of Selene's abdomen is broken away below the belt.
