- Description:
- This is a well-preserved cast of metope South 28, showing a centaur rearing triumphantly over the body of the Lapith man he has just killed. The centaur faces towards the viewer's right and twists his torso into a three-quarter pose. An animal skin hangs from his extended left arm. His right arm, also extended out, is missing from above the elbow (in the original). His head and parts of his legs are also missing. He is poised to trample the Lapith lying below him. The Lapith lies lifeless on the ground with his chlamys below him, his body twisted into a three-quarter view. His head with missing face (in the original) rests back in the lower right corner of the frame.
