- overall
- Image View Description:
- from front
- Measurement:
- without frame: 65 x 115.5 (centimeters, height x width)
with frame: 77 x 126 (centimeters, height x width) - Description:
- This is a partial cast of a floor slab decorated in floral patterns in low relief from an entryway in the North Palace of Ashurbanipal at Nineveh. The original is housed in Paris. The cast preserves the viewer's upper right quadrant of the original slab, but was hung upside down in the yellow-brown wooden frame that surrounds it here. Three motifs are separated by narrow, plain bands: Progressing inward from the edge first comes a lotus scroll, next a single band of rosettes, and finally an expansive pattern of contiguous six-petaled flowers, framed by the first two bands. The pattern is meant to imitate carpet.
