- Description:
- This is an augmented cast of a bronze head of a satyr held in Munich. Only the head is preserved in the original and was once part of a complete statue. The neck and bust with animal skin cloak are modern additions, appearing only with the cast. The creature's head is turned down and to his left slightly and he casts his gaze down. The eyes of the original are hollow, once having been inset. Here, the eyes have been filled in. The satyr's ears are pointy and his hair is curly and shaggy. His curls appear somewhat doughy in the cast in contrast to their detailed treatment in bronze. His shoulders and upper torso are added here, along with an animal skin slung over and clasped at his left shoulder. The cast has been painted to appear as patinated bronze. The paint has flaked away in several large and smaller patches to expose the plaster beneath.
