- Description:
- This is a damaged cast of West VII, complete in the original but with some damage and weathering. Two horsemen ride to the viewer's left. The top part of Fig. 13's head is missing in this cast. He wears a chiton and chlamys and sits up straight to hold the reins of his horse. The animal's head, neck, and shoulders are broken away here. Fig. 14 and his horse are foregrounded in the block. All of this rider's head is missing in this cast. He wears a chiton with an animal skin cloak, which flows behind him. Fig. 14's horse rears up slightly as it gallops forward. Its snout is chipped away in the original. The original of this block and the others from the west frieze were removed from the Parthenon in 1993. This cast was evidently taken much before that date and, as such, preserves the relief in a better, less weathered condition.
