- Description:
- This is a broken but otherwise well-preserved cast of a damaged slab from the lesser podium frieze of the Nereid Monument at Xanthos, a tomb built for the Lycian ruler Erbinna, showing a merlon-topped city gate, its flanking towers, and several soldiers within. The tops of the helmeted heads of three soldiers, facing right, are visible above the tall tower at the left side of the block. Below these two figures are shown, in profile and facing right, peeking up from windows in shorter fortifications abutting the left tower. The gate is depicted at the center of the block, fronted by four panels. To the right of the gate, a round tower projects from the wall.
