- Image View Description:
- from front
- Measurement:
- 102 x 51.5 x 5 (centimeters, height x width x diameter)
- Description:
- This is a well-preserved cast of a section from the far right (viewer's) of East III depicting two men in himatia turned towards each other in conversation. The first of these, fig. 18, stands upright, faces right, and is shown in three-quarter view. His head is mostly missing (in the original). He extends his arm down to hold a now-lost staff. Fig. 19, facing left and also in three-quarter view, stoops slightly to lean on a cudgel. Half of his head remains, but his face is entirely missing (in the original). His left hand rests on his hip and he crosses his legs in front of him. As with East figs. 20-23 and 43-46, these figures have been conjectured to be eponymous heroes of Athens, dignitaries, or magistrates. Fig. 18 has also been interpreted as a processional marshal or as Theseus.
