- Description:
- This is a cast of a section of East V depicting Athena and Hephaestus seated on stools. Athena, fig. 36, wears a peplos and sits facing right (viewer's). Her head, damaged (in the original) so as to render indistinct her facial features, is shown in profile, while her torso is turned between a three-quarter and profile pose. She lays her left hand in her lap, while she rests her relaxedly bent right arm slightly behind her on her stool. The goddess' left leg extends outward from her stool
her right leg is bent back slightly. Hephaestus, fig. 37, is draped in a himation from the waist down. He turns his damaged (in the original), bearded face back to look at Athena, twisting his bared torso into an almost frontal pose. The god leans slightly onto a crutch held under his right arm and rests his left arm on his lap. His left leg is bent back
his right extended forward. - Notes:
