- Description:
- "The McClintock Shed This shed was the field laboratory of Barbara McClintock and George W. Beadle, who each won Nobel Prizes in Physiology and Medicine for their research in genetics. Experimenting with corn in the field across the road, McClintock discovered physical evidence that confirmed the theory linking the recombination of chromosomes to genetic changes. Beadle's work demonstrated how genes control the basic chemistry of living cells. They, together with Professor Rollins A. Emerson, and his students, Milislav Demerec, Marcus Rhoades, George Sprague, and Charles Burnham, greatly advanced our understanding of genetics and plant breeding in the early 20th century."
