- Description:
- This is a cast of a bust of the Iuno or Juno Cesi, a larger than life-size statue known in Rome since the first half of the 16th c. and probably found there. The goddess turns and tilts her head slightly to her left and looks calmly ahead. Her eyes are thick-lidded and almond shaped. She has vaguely parted full lips that are turned up at the corners in the slightest of smiles. Her wavy hair is parted in the middle and twisted up at the sides. She wears a relatively thick headband. The bust includes the topmost portion of the goddess' chiton, which drapes in folds and is fastened at her right shoulder and a small amount of the mantle over her left shoulder. The original from which this cast was made is likely an original dating to the Hellenistic period and of the Pergamene school, or is a well-rendered Roman copy of such a work.
