- Montacute House is an Elizabethan house "highlighted by elegant chimneys, carved parapets and other Renaissance features that include contemporary plasterwork, chimney pieces and heraldic glass. The outstanding state rooms include a long gallery which is the largest of its kind in En gland, and an abundance of 17th- and 18th-century furniture, and Elizabethan and Jacobean portraits from the National Portrait Gallery. A collection of textiles, includes a display of 17th-century samplers. A formal garden offers mixed borders and old roses, surrounded by a landscaped park."
