- Description:
- "F.L. Ames served as a director of the Old Colony Railroad. In 1881 he personally commissioned the Old Colony Railroad Station at 80 Mechanic Street, which he gave to the railroad when it was completed. Construction began in 1882, and F.L. Olmsted landscaped the grounds in 1884. In 1969 the Ames family bought the railroad station back from the New York Central Railroad for $15,000 and gave it to the Easton Historical Society." "Richardson's design for the North Easton station is a simple rectangular block oriented parallel to the tracks. It was symmetrical, with a central lobby and ticket office dividing rooms for men and women. The major material of the building is granite, the trim is brownstone, and the broad hipped roof is covered with slate. The wood framing members of the windows are decorated with carvings of snarling wolves' heads." (Source: Oakes Ames Memorial Hall Association, )
