- Description:
- This image provides an early view of the 1901 landscaping plan for the Mall in the District of Columbia. We can see clearly the Smithsonian Castle, Arts and Industries Building and Museum of Natural History on either side of the Mall. Still unbuilt when this photograph was taken in 1 936 are the following buildings we now consider fixtures on the Mall: National Museum of American History, National Gallery of Art, Air and Space Museum, and Hirshhorn Museum.
