- Descriptive passage pasted to verso of mount and dated 25 June 1935: "This recent aerial photograph shows the ancient city of Williamsburg, Virginia, scene of the restoration of the colonial area in progress here for more than seven years by Mr. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The broad thoroughfare in the center of the picture is historic Duke of Gloucester Street extending from the campus of the College of William and Mary at the left to the ground adjoining the colonial Capitol which has been restored to its original foundations. In the upper center may be seen the Governor's Palace and elaborate formal gardens and canal, one of the principal places included in the Restoration. . ."
