Rinderpest - Description:
- Four men pushing a two-wheeled freight wagon across a large puddle. Two are in front (where there is usually a carabao or a horse), and two men are in the back. Rickshaws pulled by coolies were not typical in Manila, compared to the rest of Southeast Asia, so this might reflect effects of the Rinderpest epidemic which killed 80-90% of carabao and cattle in the Philippine archipelago. Brill hints that these men are laborers.
- Annotation:
- Philippines, Manilla. Freight transportation, carabaos, source [?] labor cheap, Rinderpest killed many carabaos
