- Description:
- A series of views of a nude, thin, light skinned man walking. The image is split into two rows of 12 images, each row representing sequential actions of a man taking two steps; the top row shows his right profile and the bottom shows him from the front. In the top row he is in front of a dark gridded surface, his shoulders slightly stooped, looking down. In the bottom row he's walking toward the camera, again looking down, his walking looks stiff, as though he's shifting his weight above the hips at every step. His left arm is likely palsied, it is held in front of him at the elbow and his hand angles down, it is almost stationary as compared to his right arm, which swings freely.
- Notes:
- Collotype print based on Muybridge's photography of motion.
The Herbert F. Johnson Museum holds several plates from Muybridge's Animal Locomotion project. The Rare and Manuscript Collections holds two sets of collotype plates from this series. A complete list of the plates is available in the prospectus held in the Rare and Manuscript Collections and available digitally. - Cite As:
