- Description:
- A dark skinned man with a moustache and hat holds the lead of an enormous light colored cow. The cow and the man are visible in full, on a dirt floor with a plain fabric backdrop. The cow is as tall as the man's chin, it has very muscular shoulders and somewhat short legs.
- Notes:
- Salted paper print mounted on board, varnished with a technique particular to Tournachon.
One of a series of photographs of prize-winning bovines taken by Adrien Tournachon at the 1856 Universal Agricultural Competition of Paris. Printed captions underneath the image include the breed, age, owner, and prize won. Each photograph is stamped with the inscription "Nadar Jeune et cie, 17 Boulevard des Italiens". The publication Les Races Bovines au Concours Universel Agricole de Paris en 1856, included illustrations made from this series of Tournachon's photographs. - Cite As:
