- Description:
- Open case view of a seated portrait of a light skinned man in a wide lapel suit with a walking stick in his left hand and his right arm around the shoulder of the dog. The two are spaced like a standard double portrait with the man on the left and the dog on the right, but the dog is laying with it's head on the man's leg, so there is nothing in the upper right quarter of the image. The man has a full head of hair and looks just below the camera with a blank expression. The dog's coloring is dark and light and it looks a bit like a pitbull with an underbite. The image has an engraved brass mat, and the pink satin interior of the case is visible. The second and third views are the recto and verso of the case, which is tooled leather with botanical and geometric themes.
- Notes:
- Quarter plate daguerreotype with hand-coloring, one of a number of daguerreotypes and cased photographs in the Loewentheil collection.
