- Notes:
- An advertising map by the artist James Marsh, commissioned by Yamaha to mark the 100th anniversary of its first instrument. "Amazonian castanets represent South America, cowbells indicate the United Kingdom, and a dulcimer marks the Appalachian Mountains. Marsh added to the map's humor with his punning place-names. The oceans all roar in the key of 'C,' Siberia appears as 'The Shivering Zither Zone,' and the sitar denoting India is dubbed 'Satire.' In using musical commodities to represent the topography of his map, Marsh wittily illustrates the interpenetration of consumption and cartography." (Dillon 2007, 326).
