- Notes:
- This map should be viewed in conjunction with ID #2105, Parco dell'Etna. Both maps show Mt. Etna in Sicily and the surrounding area, and the two are at approximately the same scale. The only significant difference is in the manner of presenting historic lava flows.
On the Parco dell'Etna map, the lava flows are shown in shades of grey against lighter shades of gray. The date of each flow is shown on the map. For example, to the south-east of the summit one may see the "Lava del 1991-93." The map does not suggest that lava flow from eruptions are a particular hazard.
On the Mt. Etna carta naturalistica, the lava flows are color coded, and the more recent flows have the most alarming colors: bright red for flows in the 20th and 21st centuries. One can locate the same 1991-93 lava flow on this map, but the message of danger is apparent at a glance.
