Notes:
An unmistakeable image of an immense German aviator towering over England. This illustration appeared in late November 1939, during the "Phony War" after the German invasion of Poland and a year before the beginning of the Blitz. The German pilot is holding a camera, and the caption under him reads, "Advance for penetration in England: Germany's Luftwaffe monitors England's war measures."

The Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung, often abbreviated BIZ, was a weekly illustrated magazine published in Berlin from 1892 to 1945. It was the first mass-market German magazine and pioneered the format of the illustrated news magazine.
