Mitchell is laying on his left side in a hospital bed with his right hand gripping the edge of the bed receiving spinal anesthesia. The doctor, Ernest Ceriani, seated behind him, is gowned, masked, and capped, so all that can be seen of him are his intently focused eyes and one ear.
- Notes:
- This image is an outtake from a Life magazine photo essay about Ceriani.
