A long line of light skinned young men, kitchen stewards, stand in a line, closer to the camera on the right edge of the frame, growing farther away to the left. The men are outdoors, on a deck or a dock, in white uniforms and aprons, with "Dixie cup" hats. An officer in a very dark suit is inspecting them, he has his back to the camera and has made it down about a thrd of the row. Each man in the line has a kettle in a roasting pan on the ground in front of him.
