- Description:
- This is a cast of a statuette of a standing male holding a large, stylized sistrum. The figure is blocky and wears a short-sleeved tunic that extends to just above his ankles. Stripes along the lower half of the sleeves are indicated by ridges, and folds at the sides of the tunic suggest a gather at the (obscured) front of the garment. With both arms, the figure supports a tall, stylized sistrum, the symbol of Hathor, which is as tall as his lower rib cage. The Hathor symbolism is made explicit by the representation of the cow-eared head of the goddess on the instrument. A tall pillar stands at the back of the figure. Based on the texture and white paint of the cast, the original was possibly sculpted from limestone or calcite. The cast has very obvious plaster mold seams. The original from which this cast was taken remains to be identified. Compare the granodorite statue in the British Museum, Museum no. EA1225, of a kneeling figure from the 26th Dynasty holding a stylized sistrum.
