- Description:
- This is a cast, in fair condition, of a relief of a bearded guard from the Apadana at Persepolis housed in the British Museum. The draped figure faces right (viewer's) and wears an upright, pleated headdress. He has large, almond-shaped eyes and his hair and beard are depicted in rows of tight curls. The guard holds a shield on his left side and a spear in his right hand. The original stone was cut in an irregular shape from a larger wall composition and preserves traces of paint. This cast has been filled in around the edges to create a rectangle.
