- Description:
- Design an addition to the existing Malott Hall on the Cornell Campus. It houses the growing activities of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration. The new structure will include offices, classrooms, library and lecture rooms. The existing landscape garden and its sculpture between the existing Malott Hall and Tower Road were to be maintained.
The addition to Malott Hall was designed to be a coherent form within itself and, at the same time, compatible with the existing building in exterior character, as well as internal spatial organization. Situating the new structure perpendicular to the existing building, and careful detailing of the juncture between them, maintains the image of the existing building as a distinct and separate entity. The location of the new addition reinforces the corner of Tower Road and Garden Avenue. The external rising circulation from Tower Road to the entrance of the existing building provides a view of the landscape garden and sculpture. The two lecture rooms, with 120 seats in each, were designed in a forum arrangement with tiered seating to facilitate class discussions. - Format:
