- Design a residence for Carl Sagan and his family, including a large studio space and a separate garage. The design was to take advantage of a unique sloping site adjacent to a gorge and overlooking Cayuga Lake.
The entrance sequence is through a court open to Cayuga Lake and leading to an axial movement through the building to the gorge. The primary central floor area is an open-plan for entertaining guests: two-story living area, library, dining area and supporting kitchen, with an exterior deck fronting Cayuga Lake, facing the west and the setting sun, and an exterior dining terrace overlooking the gorge. The studio space, with skylight and adjacent terrace, is located on the floor below. The bedrooms and a study are located on the second level, with circulation overlooking the living area and the lake. - Format:
