- Description:
- Large, thick-butted, curved-bit, flaked and ground stone axe. Generally rectangular form, with both surfaces convex, and a convex curved bit-edge. Uniform, high-quality, dark-brown flint, flaked to shape and then ground to a smooth surface on all sides except the butt end. A few partial flake scars remain, but grinding is generally quite uniform. Striations running the length of the piece, not polished out, show the direction of grinding strokes. 19th-century handwriting reads, "Maribo / Aalborg / Jylland / 1872", and it is also marked both in ink ("No 42") and on a partial remnant paper label ("42") .
