- Description:
- Flaked and polished stone chisel. Light greyish-brown flint. Flaked to a slightly bulbous rectangular cross-section, tapering from a relatively wide bit to a thicker, narrower butt-end. Original polish covered approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the surface back from the bit, along all four sides. The bit is slightly convex at the end, with a very slight curve to the edge in section (not so much as to appear like a gouge, but still visible), and has a steep, polished taper to the cutting edge. It is possible this is from resharpening (the piece is shorter than many), but may also have been made as a stockier chisel. nineteenth-century handwriting (now largely obliterated) read "Samsö / 1875".
