- "Willard Dickerman Straight of the class of 1901 died in France on the first day of November 1918 while serving as a major in the United States Army A. E. F. Throughout his life his broad human sympathies were ever available to those who had need of them. His wish was that his estate might serve in some way to enrich student life and to enlarge their opportunity for human contact at his Alma Mater. His widow Dorothy Whitney erected this building for the benefit and enjoyment of the students of Cornell. Nineteen twenty-five." Main entrance, Willard Straight Hall.
