- This Chinese "Situation Map of People of the World Fighting Against the US" was issued as a supplement to the publication "World Affairs," nos. 2 and 3, in 1966. Above the map is a lengthy quote from Chairman Mao, "The raging tide of the people of the world against the U.S. aggressors is irresistible. Their struggle against US imperialism and its lackeys will assuredly win still greater victories." The numbers on the map represent American military forces deployed around the world, for example, 250,000 in West Germany, 200,000 in South Vietnam, 55,000 in South Korea and a total of 90,000 in Japan.
The symbols on the map are explained in a legend block and summarized by the statement, "The US imperialists have established more than 2,200 military bases and facilities overseas and deployed more than 1 million invading troops." The black dots represent "Major military bases established overseas by the US imperialism." The black dots surrounded by white circles are "Joint US and UK bases under construction." The orange flames are "The countries and regions engaged in fierce struggle against the US-led imperialism and its lackeys in 1965." The white flames surrounded by white circles are "The countries and regions engaged in the armed struggle against imperialism and their lackeys" (apparently referring to non-U.S. imperialism).
For a map with a very similar attack on American military imperialism published by the Communist Party of France, see ID #1347, "Voici les Bases Americaines dans le Monde" (1951).
