- Description:
- Orangeware spouted bottle with fine line decoration in postfire reddish brown pigment. Type III (?). The focal point of this common design is a modeled, painted deity head which forms the base of the high, tapering cylindrical spout. The ears bear indentations, possibly for inlay, though other examples are fully pierced. From the earspools hang pendants which are painted & modeled in bas relief on the shoulder of the pot's body. Two applique prone figures are on the body of the pot, to either side. The head & headdress of one figure is restored. An applique prone figure on the handle is also restored, as is the spout. The slip is light orange. The body of the pot is separated into two registers by an incised line with 2 broad painted lines & 1 narrow painted line below. Three stylized figures, one with great loss of color, occupy the upper register of painted decoration in the front of the pot. Designs typical of textiles, consisting of wavy lines & dotted bands and step motifs occupy the upper register at the back of the pot. The lower register consists of a row of seven large dots. One is repainted. The high pedestal base of the pot has been reconstructed from fragments. It is divided into two registers separated by a thick painted line and is molded in negative relief. In the upper register is a row of step frets. The lower is comprised of triangles with apexes alternating. The bottom of the base is accentuated with a thick painted line.
