- Description:
- Orangeware spouted vessel with a double strap handle and a sharply angled conical pedestal base. The vessel body is biconical with a visible carination highlighted by an impressed band of step-motif, similar to textile patterns. The neck is slightly flared, and becomes conical at the spout. The strap handle joins the neck at the point of inflection to the seam at the carination of the body. The lower neck is impressed or incised with further geometric patterns, and two seemingly unfinished bird figure sit on the upper shoulder, facing the neck, at 3 and 9 o'clock. Like 986.1.97 but with pronounced carination and with unfinished bird on each shoulder as in 986.1.91.The center motif of the neckband there looks like the lower half of the "crab" at Chotuna and Huaca el Dragon, Moche Valley, only this time the upper and lower parts are identical (-original cataloger). Alternatively, the central motif resembles a relatively common mandala design seen in textiles.
