- This is a well-preserved cast of Acropolis Kore 674, a damaged marble votive statue recovered in 1888 from a deposit on the Athenian Acropolis containing debris from the Persian destruction of Athens in 480 BCE. The young woman stands straight and stares ahead with large-lidded, almond-shaped eyes. Her hair is thick and wavy above the forehead and then falls in three locks over each breast. The hair is depicted as a heavily patterned rectangle at the back. Her head is topped with a stephane (headdress). She wears a crinkly chiton and a short himation that falls in patterned folds to form an inverted v-shape at the waist. Some color has been added to this cast to simulate the look of the original, which retains heavy traces of paint. For example, decorative meanders appear here in black along the edges of the chiton and himation. The forearms and legs from above the knees are missing in the original and the nose is heavily chipped.
