- This is a plaster cast of the head and neck of a female from the Caproni "Blocked Studies". It has blocky, squared facial features and unfinished details with a squared nose bridge and chin, squared eyelids and lips, and an angular jaw. The cheek bones and temples are linear. The hair is tied back in a bun and a fillet bands the head vertically. Stylized curls or waves are doughy and lumpy. The front of the neck is planar and back of the neck is finger-textured. The cast is painted a mottled white and gray, with additional gray details on the hair. Incised on left side of pedestal is: "Copyright 1916, P.P.Caproni & Bros. Inc." This is either no. 14020 in the 1931 Caproni catalog (p. 29) or a very similar head. Per email correspondence with a representative (Kayla) of the Giust Gallery, owners of Caproni's collection of castings, on Sept. 4, 2014, "The Blocked Studies were either made by the Caproni brothers or made for them with the intention of being used for study." Such figures were intended as models for artists.
