- Description:
- This is a plaster cast of a bust of a male from the Caproni series labeled "Blocked Studies" (1911 catalogue). The head of the figure is tipped up to look skyward. It has blocky, squared features and unfinished details, with short, unarticulated hair and a squared nose bridge, chin, and jaw, as well as squared eyelids and lips. Little, if any, anatomical detail is visible on the upper chest. Per email correspondence with a representative (Kayla) of the Giust Gallery, owners of Caproni's collection of castings, on Sept. 4, 2014, "The Blocked Studies were either made by the Caproni brothers or made for them with the intention of being used for study." Such figures were intended as models for artists.
