- Description:
- This is a cast of a bust of a young woman in the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. She holds her head up stiffly and looks ahead. Her hair is pulled up semi-elaborately and held by a cloth band. A very thin fillet is visible at the top of her forehead. She wears a sleeved garment with a thick, decorative border that meets at her chest to form a v. A second, decorated garment is visible under the first at the v. The original was once ascribed to Desiderio da Settignano and identified as a portrait of a princess of Urbino, Italy. Based on her resemblance to the family of Federigo da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, she was likely a member of that family, but the work is no longer identified as that of da Settignano.
