- Description:
- This is a cast of a Roman Republican portrait head housed in Munich. This portrait was traditionally identified as that of Sulla, but is now identified more generically as that of a republican leader. He turns his head to his right casting an intense gaze with his large, round eyes. His brow is furrowed, his skin shows signs of age, and his broad chin is subtly cleft. Thick, wavy hair frames his face. This cast preserves modern restorations to the nose, hair, chin, and cheeks that have since been removed from the original. The cast was stolen from Sibley Hall very late on Dec. 31, 2012 and promptly recovered by Cornell University Police (Jan. 1, 2013, 12:02am). A tag with a bar code affixed to the back of the cast records the incident number and other identifying information.
