- Description:
- This is a small plaster bust of Victor Hugo, the famous 19th century French author. Hugo is depicted here in later life with his head turned to his left and looking sternly ahead. He has short hair that has receded past the top of his forehead and his beard is full and well-groomed. He wears a vest and overcoat.
A handwritten paper label is attached to the cast that reads, "Hugo's bust, 2.oo". This perhaps refers to the original price of the cast (?). Incised on the left side of the cast is: "copyrighted 1900 by P.P.Caproni & Bro., Boston"
on the right arm is incised "AR"
and incised on the back "5763". The original from which this cast was produced remains to be located. - Notes:
